SUBSTRATE VOLUME CALCULATOR
Are you in control of your plant growth?
In order to maximise your yield and crop quality, you need to control your plant growth to meet the different seasonal conditions. Your substrate volume plays a very important role on what you can and can not do and the question is: Do you have full control over your crop development or does your substrate or irrigation system set the limits for you?

If you want to maximise your yield and optimise your crop quality, you should read this page and try out our substrate volume calculator FOR FREE by clicking on 'Start application' above.

The Grodan substrate volume calculator
Substrate volume is measured as the number of litres of substrate per square metre. To optimise crop performance, Grodan recommends that your substrate volume falls within certain crop dependent target levels. If you use too little or too much substrate, you will loose control over your crop development. To help you find your optimal substrate volume, we have developed a small program for you to use free of charge. The program calculates your substrate volume in litres per square metre AND other valuable results for you based on only a few lines of input.

Just click on 'Start application' above to get started and see if your substrate volume is within the target values. If you need help, just place your mouse cursor over the small 'i' to the left of each input/output field and a pop-up helpfunction will appear.

How can you benefit from using the right amount of substrate?
  • You can lower your labour costs due to easier crop management with controlled and directed crop growth.
  • You may lower your production cost by improving your water and fertiliser use efficiency and applying optimal water management.
  • You may avoid stress for plant longevity, resulting in better fruit quality and higher yield by applying optimal water management.
  • You can reduce the risk of root and leaf deceases such as Mycosphaerella, Botrytis, Pythium and Phytophthora when you grow stronger and healthier plants.
